The Dombunker measures 81m length, is 16m wide and 25m high. It was called Dombunker because of the church-shaped roof. The roof has a thickness of 3,5m, the the shape made it difficult to be hit by a bomb. The bomb would slide to the side and explode, without causing damage. This Dombunker could shelter a type II U-Boat. Because there is no open connection to the sea, a ship angle was available to move the U-Boats from the basin to a rotor mechanism. From the rotor mechanism the U-boat could be moved to one of the 6 dry-docks. Two of those dry-docks were in the two Dombunkers. The other 4 docks were not protected. The armoured front doors are still available. One of the Dombunkers is still in user for ship repairs.
